The Hidden City (1988)
Written and directed by Stephen Poliakoff, whose work for television has included ‘Shooting the Past’, ‘Glorious 39’ and ‘Dancing on the Edge’, this is another film set in and about London. Cassie Stuart plays Sharon, a film researcher who upsets the mundane life of lecturer James Richards, played by the ever-reliable Charles Dance when she pops up with an intriguing but unrelated sequence she has found spliced into a 1950’s public information film.
They spend the rest of the time tracing further sequences and trying to discover what they mean whilst being harassed by the police and/or MI5 until…
Written like this the plot doesn’t sound exactly riveting but it is well worth a look.
